The Basics

As a member of YotLinx you are entitled to expect your personal information to be kept safe. The purpose of Yotlinx is to promote sailing. We collect the minimum of information to enable members to contact each other and to create and join events.

By submitting personal data manually or in electronic form to this web site, or by using this site, you give your consent that all personal data you submit may be processed in the manner and for the purposes described below:

Contact between members - Your e-mail address, address, phone numbers and next of kin details can not be accessed by other members except where you register an interest in an event when details become available to the 'Event Organiser' see below.

Although members can contact you via the site mailer, your e-mail address only becomes available to them when you reply. If you contact other members eg: through 'Member Home' the site will send them an e-mail from you. Revealing your e-mail address to others requires an action from you. It's your choice!

While logged in, other members can only access your name, sailing interests and qualifications, your organizational affiliation, your location by county/state and country and 'a little about yourself' via "View All Members".

Registering an interest in an event  When you register an interest in an event it is necessary for the event organizer to have access to more information. This will include all of the above plus e-mail, address, telephone and next of kin data all of which will be necessary to organize an event and some of which (eg: next of kin data) will/may be required ie: by yacht charterers. Clearly, event organizers will need to contact you.

Keeping you informed  Yotlinx will from time to time e-mail members with updates in services and events and information bulletins. You can opt out from this service by e-mailing optout@yotlinx.net

Members have the ability and are encouraged to update their personal details at any time via "Update Profile" when logged on.

Yotlinx manages all collected data in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act This includes the provision of access to information about members, who have right to demand that this information is amended and/or deleted should it not comply with the Act's principles.

Yotlinx may disclose data to third parties. Such circumstances might include the disclosure of data:

• To companies acting for Yotlinx in performing Yotlinx normal business.
• When obliged to do so by law. This would include police investigations.
• When protecting customer interests, such as legal liability.

We reserve the right to change the Privacy Policy from time to time and will provide notice of these changes on the home page of our web site. You should make sure you periodically review the Privacy Policy to make sure it meets your needs.

If you do nothing other than read pages or download information while using this web site, we will capture and store information about your visit. This information will not identify you; it relates to:

• the Internet domain (e.g. www.company.co.uk) and IP address from which you access the web site

• the type of browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and operating system (Windows, UNIX) you use

• the date and time of your visit

• the pages you visit

• the address of the web site from which you linked to us

We use this information to make each visit more rewarding, and to provide us with information to help improve our service. We do not know (and do not want to know) the identities of people who visit us in this way.
