Come on, give us your sailing recipes! - Posted: January 7, 2008 - 9:26 PM Quote and reply
I do love my food and, as a skipper, I know how important the right food at the right time is for the crew. The trouble is I'm a useless cook. OK, I can do the full English in an F6 under sail if called upon to do so, if only for myself. But I am just not good in the kitchen, er..galley. However, I don't really think it's necessary. What I think I've learned over the years is that it's all about planning and having the right stuff on board. Then anyone can throw it together. Can't they?
I know we tend to eat completely different stuff when we are at sea. I know too that the cusine must suit the equipment on board, so we need to keep it simple. So what I am after, is those great, simple sea-going recipes and shopping lists to go with them.
I know you've got em, so come on let's get em out here in the foum.

Chefs Chicken Surprise - Posted: January 21, 2008 - 10:33 PM Quote and reply
Depending on fridge availability but simple fresh chicken breasts, 1 per person, surrounded (in a baking tray) by fresh cut, peppers, onion, tomatoes and mushrooms, drizzled with oil and stuck in the oven for 45 minutes or so. Does make it look like you have made an effort. If oven is "fierce" heat as in our Taylors Paraffin jobby, then cover with foil.

We often do this on first night while chicken is not ridden with Salmonella and maintains morale as dropping standard sets in for less imaginative spread. The more colourful the peppers the greater the effect.
