Just a quick note to say that I hoped everyone got home safely and had a good weekend despite the weather. Also to say a big 'well done' to skippers and crews for getting to Tarbert and back safely and generally making the event the success that some of you have already suggested it was. Brilliant!
For the benefit of some of the novices on board and those who otherwise haven't participated in the event before, I can confirm that that indeed that was almost certainly the worst weather we have had on the event. We normally get better! Being the Committee Boat skipper and event organiser I can tell you that I came very close to calling the event off as we rounded Garroch Head on Saturday morning. We had motored between the two Cumbraes to ensure we would arrive at Inchmarnock Island ahead of the fleet. Once we were ahead we banged up the sails with both reefs in and started the beat toward Garroch Head. Our Windex, was showing a steady F7 with occasional excersions into F8. I had previously said that if F8 was mentioned in the forecast we'd cancel. It wasn't mentioned in the forecast. However, once we rounded the headland, it was clear we could make Inchmarnock close hauled in one beat where we could get some shelter and rest. Once there, I think everything settled down.
It would be great to get your thoughts on the event and if you'd like to share those here, please just hit 'quote and reply' above. Please feel free to discuss all or any aspects of the event. We are always trying to improve it. If you want to make a less public comments, please just e-mail me.
Regards,
David

Thank you for a great weekend. Even though the weather did not cooperate with us, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip and gained valuable experience. I would suggest the following to make it even better:
- Have the trip plan shared up front so that we can prepare for the trip better with fall back considerations and contingency plans in place. I felt that we should have had more discussion about these before we set off.
- One of the aims of these regattas is introducing new people into sailing and improving the skills of the skippers / mates. We should do a post mortem with the skippers and anyone else interested and share our learnings - Like what to do if you loose your life raft? Or what if your boom gets damaged? or anything else that the other fellow sailors experienced during the trip.
I hope to see you all in the future events.

Hi All
Not sure about Yotlinx playing a bigger part in individual crew safety management - that's the skipper's responsibility. However the fact that timed execrises started from the moment of skippers return to the yacht did mean there was no time to brief the crew - or even the mate - on the task. Also no 'teaching/working up time' for novice crew-members.
If we could get the boats out sailing first and provide some opportunity for crews to get in the swing of things it would be a plus. Perhaps having the technical tasks (like MOB) off Largs before any timed route sailing begins could provide that opportunity.
These are incremental improvement opportunities however and, as ever, full marks to David for organising another excellent event.
